It all started with me adding a second Arcade1UP cab to our expandable party, err... summer-home-office shed. While KLAX and Gauntlet were the main reasons for buying it, I'm happy that there are a couple more games on it with Tapper being one of it. It's a fun little game, easy to learn for folks visiting us and thus often played. I too got hooked this summer and spent some time sliding beer mugs across the bars.
In unrelated news, Rebel1 started releasing a series of PETSCII pictures featuring various characters from C64 games and 80's TV shows, who are enjoying a glass of beer. They are all awesome, check them out!
At the same time but ~8,000km to the east, Raistlin started a new C64GFX.com compo dubbed C64GFX.com Game Loading Screen Compo 2024
Cut to 03.09.2024, and the stars aligned for a split second and the idea of doing a little tribute pic was born, combining all three by doing a Tapper loading pic building upon R1's pics for the compo.
An hour or so later, a first version of the pic was done:
And after a few more tweaks, it turned into a TMZ News: CCTV leak from a C64 celebs-only party at "Rebel's Pub" thingy.
For toning down the prominence of the CCTV texts, I've switched to lower-case, which resulted in only a handful of chars to be tweaked. Getting rid of the triangels was a highly welcomed consequence.
After re-viewing the pic the following morning, I found it still funand went ahead and PM'd Rebel1 about its existance. A couple of minutes later, I got a green light from R1 to follow through with the pic :-)
Time for some more tweaks... first up, fixing the Stan from Monkey Island inspired shirt and upping the apron's quality.
Further, small bits here and there...
... and adding some dynamic for re-creating the stress factor of playing a round of Tapper.
Done!
Remixing other peoples work is high on my agenda, but I'm not sure if that's a thing in the scene. Really, really, really happy that R1 was open for it right away and I do feel, this satisfying collab-in-spirit does shine through.
Cheers, folks!
wow!
Great idea with old screen rounded corners, I should have done that for Pyza in Cepelia
Prost, everybody
that pint looks especially appetizing :)
Great tribute and the bartender looks so detailed.
Funny!
Great work.
My dream job: tapping beer for Orko, Esmeralda, Harry, Bruce & Yamo, Audrey and Strange-Eye Cat! Thumbs up & thx for the reference.
Very nice idea & execution!
