Full Demo Credits

First thing to point out is that I only played a small part in this release, and here on this page, I'm more or less focussing on that tiny part only. That said, here's the credits for the full demo:

How it started

With the numbers of the Commodore 64 (C64) Facebook group rising, a little celebration demo was due and as we all know, demos require GFX.

After fooling around with the existing logo from Airwolf's YouTube channel; nothing creative here, just shrinking it down and cramming it into a CharSet which, in the end, didn't get used in the demo. Why the checkerbord pattern? The idea was to set two MC colors to blue, which would allow to have the sprites - when moved behind the logo - to shine through in a semi-transparent way. At least, that's what was in my head but never got put into a prototype.

Let's do Logos

Facebook has a logo. The C64 has a logo. How about using both in one way or another?

First idea was fooling around with the Facebook logo:

Nah, there's no ratio there that could ever work. Let's crunch it down a bit:

Now, that's better! Returning to the square Facebook logo and just adding details. But still, it's not really something yet.

Jump ahead

Sadly, for the next iteration, there aren't any workstages really due to being in the zone but I just went ahead reducing the logos to their official shapes and put them next to each other. Also, the Facebook group's name is rather lengthy (and redundant) and thus, turning trying to incorporate it into the logos was just skipped. Here's what I've ended up with:

Next, I've removed the thin line highlight for keeping a balance between both logos visually. And that's it.

Brainfart

Before closing down, I thought I'd try what a shiny highlight would look like. Main idea was, that there could be a light above swinging left to right and thus highlighting the corresponding sides.

It's rather crude looking but I think it might work just well when animated.

Conclusion

Anyway, shared the PETSCII with F4CG headquaters and Goerp went ahead coding this lovely little celebration dubbed 65536 Members!
